Interview with Nicolás Almagro
When did you first realize tennis was going to be your life?

This is not something that you think about, it is something that develops as time goes by and keep on that way.

What are you most looking forward to about The Dream Cup and your trip to Barbados?

It will be a good experience, high level players will be there. I have never been in Barbados before but I have heard good things about it and I am excited to be there.

Have you checked out Saint Peter's Bay? What do you think of such a unique prize?

Yes, I saw it. I hope I will enjoy every moment, even the small details.

What makes a clay court so enjoyable for you?

That is the surface which I grew up on and that I feel more comfortable. That's why that's my favorite.

Barbados has some of the best surfing spots in the world. Apart from tennis, what other sports do you like? Will you give water sports a chance?

I like soccer . I play it when I can even though I don't have much time for that. I have never tried water sports but I hope I will have this opportunity in Barbados.

Is there a special lady in your life?

My nieces and my mother.

Who or what is the biggest influence these days on you and your game?

My family, my staff and my friends give me strength to continue competing.

Any sports figures you especially admire?

Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco and Valentino Rossi.

The fiery Spaniard Nicolas “Nico’’ Almagro is ranked number 15 in the world and he brings serious power and energy to the court with his classically crafted game. Spain births clay court players and clay is evidently where he is most comfortable.

With 12 singles titles under his belt, he has one of the strongest serves in the game, often registering over 210 km/h. His strong one-handed backhand, described as one of the “sweetest strokes on tour,’’ coupled with his energetic nature, is enough to make his opponents sweat. Almargo has been a consistent Top 15 player and we welcome him and his truly outstanding form to our shores.
